brain maps & type book

The brain maps are what led me to the lizard and snake idea for the type specimen book. The book is meant to be educational, but also something fun for kids to read. The points are kept short and lots of pictures are used. I wanted to make something that kids in middle school or grade school would be interested in. Each animal has certain basic facts, like where they live, what the eat, how big they get and how long they live. Then each animal also has fun facts about them, things that make them special and unique. The basic facts and fun facts are kept short, most in bullet point form, because if a kid picks up a book with lots of pictures and straight to the point facts, or a book with lots of reading, they will go with the fun picture filled book.

As for my surveys, they were given to 6th graders. They responded well to the images. The boys tended to like the subject matter of lizards and snakes more than most of the girls did, but I expected that.
